Accounts for using IT services of FB3

A personal account is required for the use of IT services and computers of the FB3.

Each account includes, among other things, a home directory, and the account is a prerequisite for setting up a personal website on the FB3 web server, for using the pool computers and printers in the FB3 practical area (building MZH), as well as for several other services.

Importing Uni-Accounts

All Uni-Accounts of users associated with the FB3 that were created after June 16, 2014, will be automatically imported to the FB3 (i.e., into the FB3 directory service). This includes the account name ("login name"), password hashes, user ID and other attributes. Therefore, the name and password of the Uni-Account are used for logging into the computers of FB3 and for FB3 IT services. Once the Uni-Account is no longer valid (usually upon leaving the university) or loses its association with the FB3, access to the computers and IT services of the FB3 is generally no longer possible.

The Uni-Account can be managed via the Online-Tools of Administrative Department 8. They can also be used to change the password.

Furthermore, the FB3 provides its own Usertools, through which data specific to the FB3 access can be managed.

Uni-Accounts that were created before June 16, 2014, will not be automatically imported by the FB3. If the respective users wish to use FB3 computers and IT services, their university accounts can be imported manually. In this case, the technicians responsible for issuing access chips to the MZH and FB3 computer pool must be contacted (see Access System for contact details).

Note: The regulation described here applies equally to FB4 students in the Systems Engineering program and FB7 students in the Management Information Systems program; they are considered equivalent to FB3 students.

Owners of role-based accounts (e.g., for events) can also have these imported to the FB3 in individual cases. However, this does not happen automatically.

Alumni accounts cannot be imported to the FB3. A Uni-Account with the status of employee, student, or 'affiliate' is a prerequisite for the import.

Uni-Accounts of members of other faculties

Uni-Accounts of users from other faculties can be imported to the FB3 in various ways. In all cases, an association of the Uni-Account with the FB3 must be established for an import to be possible.

  1. When transferring to the FB3, the Uni-Account is usually automatically associated with the FB3. If this is not the case or does not happen in time, please contact the IT-Servicedesk of the university.
  2. Members of other faculties who work as tutors or lecturers at the FB3 are entered accordingly in Stud.IP. This also associates their Uni-Account with the FB3 and allows for its import. The individuals responsible for the corresponding entry in Stud.IP can be found in the Stud.IP Legal Notice. Please use this form for this purpose. (The entry in Stud.IP can also trigger the automatic extension of an account that would otherwise have expired.) Tutors can also be entered in Stud.IP by the lecturer. Lecturer at the FB3 who do not have a contract cannot be transferred to the identity management via Stud.IP and must contact the university's IT Service Desk with proof; see 1.
  3. Students from other faculties who participate in a project or a course at the FB3 must be reported by the organizers or their staff, specifying the duration and name of the course, to service@informatik.uni-bremen.de. The Uni-Accounts will then be imported for the duration of the course or project.
  4. All other special cases can usually be handled by granting so-called "entitlements," that can be assigned directly to the Uni-Account by the technical staff of the FB3. Please contact service@informatik.uni-bremen.de for that.

Issuance of Uni-Accounts

All students of the University of Bremen automatically receive a university account upon enrollment.

Employees can apply for a Uni-Account through an online application or in person at the IT-Servicedesk. A photo ID and proof of employment are required. This also applies to special cases such as trainees, interns, and members of affiliated institutes like the DFKI.

Guests of the FB3 can obtain a Uni-Account if they present, in addition to the standard application form, an informal letter from the institute or research group management (with letterhead, stamp, etc.) that names the guest along with the duration of their stay or usage. Generally, the account is valid for one year; in exceptional cases, it can be valid for up to five years. The guest account can be extended by presenting a new letter.

Information about the Uni-Account can be found on the websites of Administrative Department 8, particularly the account application form, the opening hours for account issuance, and the university's terms of service.

Regulations upon leaving the university or the faculty

See Account after leaving Uni-Bremen on the Administrative Department 8 websites for information on how Uni-Accounts are handled when leaving the university.

Suspension and deletion of the Uni-Account will also affect accounts imported to the FB3.

If a university account loses its affiliation with the FB3 (e.g. due to a change of faculty or exmatriculation), access to FB3 services will be terminated 30 days after the status of the Uni-Account has changed accordingly. An automatic email notification will be sent 30 days before access expires.

If an FB3 association is re-established before the deletion of an FB3 access, the expiration date will be automatically lifted.

In justified cases, such as when a student is exmatriculated after registering for their thesis but still needs access to FB3 services for its completion, the FB3 access can be extended accordingly. To do this, simply reply to the notification about the expiration of FB3 access or send an email to service@informatik.uni-bremen.de.

FB3 email server and addresses

When a Uni-Account is imported to the FB3, a set of email addresses is automatically created that redirects emails from FB3 domains to the Uni-Account, so that a user can e.g. be reached via addresses like user@informatik.uni-bremen.de.

A list of currently active FB3 email addresses for an account can be found in the FB3 Usertools.

This also applies to participants in the university's alumni program.
